CHURCH, WE HAVE A TRUTH PROBLEM!
If gender “fluidity” is true, then God is a liar!   But the scriptures say:“Not at all! God be true and every human being a liar.”  As it is written: “so that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge.”  Romans 3:4 Yes, there are times when it is necessary to judge. That time is now.“Male and Female He created them.” Genesis 1:27. There is no mention of any other gender!

  • Rebuked for lack of Tolerance and Compromise in the Church

We are all aware of Christians supporting and even promoting the cruel and destructive “transgender” cult. However, over the past weeks I have heard from several people of their distress and in some cases, confusion at being rebuked by professing Christians for taking a stand against it, with the accusation they are too uncompromising in their beliefs. We should be more accepting and tolerant, they say.  For people new in the faith, or uncertain of what the scriptures say in regard to these things, this kind of confrontation can put them on shaky ground, causing doubt and misunderstanding.   Out of sincere concern, I am taking the liberty to provide some clarity as to why these people are wrong, not according to my own understanding but from the word of God, the only source of objective truth and perfect wisdom. Please hear me when I say I do not wish to condemn or to prove myself right; we are all sinners in need of God’s mercy and grace.  In writing this, my hope is that someone may be saved from error, someone from falling away from the faith and another from the consequences of causing the fall; they are severe.

  • The consequences of causing someone to fall away from the faith

Let’s first look at Matthew 18:6 – a verse we often recite when referring to little children:  “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.”  (NIV)

  • “Stumble” is Strong's Number G4624 and matches the Greek σκανδαλζω (skandalizō).  It occurs 30 times in 28 verses in the Textus Receptus Greek, and carries the meaning to sin, or fall away from the faith.

A better rendering of this verse is:  but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea. (ESV) Taken in context and by looking at the Greek, it is clear that this verse is not speaking of those young in age, as we often assume – but young in the faith.  The consequences of causing one of these “little ones” to fall away, according to the words of our Lord as recorded in the next verse, are frightening –  “Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble (to sin or fall away from the faith).  Such things must come, but woe to the person through whom they come!”  Matthew 18:7.   This alone is reason enough to make every effort to offer correction to both those on the giving end and to those receiving erroneous instruction - but let us also consider what these brothers and sisters in Christ say we should do; compromise and tolerate what the scriptures call sin so that we are more acceptable to the world.

  • We must obey God not men. Acts 5:9

A compromising church is a compromised church! As followers of Christ we are to love and accept all people, but, if we are to remain obedient to God, we cannot defend or embrace ungodly or unbiblical views and practices as being valid or morally acceptable.  Remember, Jesus came “..full of grace and truth”. John 1:14 We are also not to compromise to fit into the culture of the day; the words of Jesus tell us we are in the world, but not of the world.   “If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.” John 15:19.   Jesus said we will be hated for taking a stand for holiness.

  • Rejecting Homosexuality v Protecting Children

The scriptures are unambiguous that homosexuality (men lying with men) is a sin and those who practice it are doomed to eternal damnation.  1Corinthians 6:9-11 is a well-known verse regarding this, but there are many others, for example: –  Leviticus 18:22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.  Leviticus 20:13 If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.  Romans 1:26-28 For this reason God gave them up to dishonourable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. However, if it were just a matter of adult men and women engaging in sexual immorality, we need not be involved with council and State and Federal governments about it; only the Gospel has the power to deliver mankind out of darkness, that’s why the enemy first removed the word of God from our public discourse.  Transgenderism targets children.

  • God’s word does not change

The culture of the day does not alter or dilute God’s instruction; "The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever," Isaiah 40:8

  • Legislating unbiblical practices and beliefs into law

These are the dangers we face: -  a) When governments legislate what is ungodly into law, it permeates the very fabric of society and allows evil to become normalised, entrenched and to prosper.   We are seeing many facets of this.   b) The transgender agenda is an evil that is targeting the family unit by reaching the most vulnerable in our society, children. We can sit back, say nothing and watch them being sexually exploited, chemically castrated and surgically mutilated, or we can take a stand against it.  In a democratic system where we vote for our representatives, we all have a right to oppose evil being promoted and celebrated.  If we don’t exercise that right, our representatives are entitled to believe there is no opposition to the evil practices they wish to enshrine into law.

  • Why Christians must take a stand against wickedness

The scriptures provide believers clear guidance on what we should do, for example:  “Speak up for those who have no voice, for the justice of all who are dispossessed. Speak up, judge righteously, and defend the cause of the oppressed and needy.” Proverbs 31:8-9.  Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.” Ephesians 5:11  That is the uncomfortable work of speaking up and exposing that something is wrong!  This is what we are doing.

  • Believers will be judged first 1 Peter 4:17

There is much more that can be said, but I will conclude with this: judgement begins in the house of God; we must not tolerate unsound, ungodly teachings in the church or be swayed by unbiblical advice from fellow believers, however well-meaning they may be.  Uncomfortable as it is, we all have the responsibility to call it out and have it appropriately dealt with because – a little leaven leavens the whole lump.” Galatians 5:9.   The Epistle of Jude provides good insight and instruction on just this matter:  “Be merciful to those who doubt; save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh Jude 22-23  Also: “If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness, he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing.”  1 Timothy 6:3-4 You who are of purer eyes than to see evil and cannot look at wrong, why do you idly look at traitors and remain silent when the wicked swallows up the man more righteous than he?”  Habakkuk 1:3

My Plea and My Prayer: People of God, this is not a time to do and say nothing.  May the Lord give us wisdom, understanding and courage to do what is required of us, selflessly and fearlessly, so that we may bring to repentance those in error, strengthen those new in the faith and honour God and His word.

  • "To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy—to the only God our Saviour be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen." Jude 24-25
